Client confidentiality — non-negotiable since 2015

Wedding Video Editing
& Client Privacy

Client privacy is the number one reason wedding videographers hesitate to outsource their editing. At SmashJ, it's also the reason most of them stay. Here's exactly how we protect your couples' footage — no exceptions.

Why Privacy Matters So Much in Wedding Video Editing

Weddings are among the most intimate moments in a person's life. Couples are at their most vulnerable — expressing love, sharing tears, speaking vows in front of the people who matter most. When you hand that footage to someone outside your studio, you're extending a trust that your clients gave to you.

That's not a small thing. It's the reason many talented videographers stay buried in editing work rather than outsource — even when it costs them their weekends, their seasons, and eventually their passion for the craft.

The fear is understandable: what if the footage gets shared? What if it ends up on someone's Instagram? What if the couple finds out?

At SmashJ, we've been on the receiving end of that trust since 2015. Over 1,000 wedding films edited. Not one privacy breach. Not one client complaint about confidentiality. That's not luck — it's policy.

🚫
No public sharing — ever
We never post client footage publicly on social media, websites, YouTube, or any other platform without your explicit written permission. No exceptions, no grey areas.

Any sample edits SmashJ retains for quality reference are stored in a private, password-protected Vimeo vault — accessible only on direct request from approved parties.
☁️
Secure file transfer only
All footage is transferred via Dropbox, Google Drive, Filemail or your preferred secure cloud solution. We do not use public file sharing links or unsecured transfer methods.

Your footage is accessed only by the dedicated SmashJ editor assigned to your project. It is not circulated internally for review, training, or any other purpose without your permission.
🗑️
Footage deleted on request

If we ever want to feature an edit in our demo reel or use footage as a reference example, we ask you first — and we ask your clients. No assumed consent.

The Questions Videographers Ask About Privacy

These are the real concerns we hear most often from videographers considering outsourcing their wedding video editing for the first time.

Will my clients' footage end up on social media?
No. SmashJ has a strict no-public-sharing policy on all client footage. We do not post to Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok or any other platform without your explicit written permission and your client's consent. This is non-negotiable and has been our policy since 2015.
How do I know the footage is secure during transfer?
We use only established, encrypted cloud transfer services — Dropbox, Google Drive, and Filemail. We do not accept footage via public links or unencrypted channels. Transfer details are communicated directly between you and your assigned editor, not via shared or public channels.
Who actually sees my clients' footage?
Only the dedicated SmashJ editor assigned to your project. We do not circulate footage internally for training, review panels, or team feedback without your explicit permission. The same editor works on your projects wherever possible to minimise exposure.
Will SmashJ use my clients' footage in their own marketing?
Only with your explicit permission — and then only with your clients' permission as well. The demo reels on our website were shared with full consent from both the videographer and their clients. If we want to feature your work, we ask first. Always.
What happens to the footage after the edit is delivered?
We store your project files for a reasonable period in case revisions are needed. On request, we delete all raw footage and project files from our systems once the project is finalised. You can ask for deletion at any time and we will comply promptly.
My clients sign a contract with me — does that cover outsourcing?
That depends on your contract wording. Many videographers include a clause in their client agreements that permits them to engage trusted third-party post-production partners. If you're unsure, we recommend checking with your legal advisor. We're happy to provide a written privacy commitment from SmashJ that you can reference in your own agreements.
Can SmashJ sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA)?
Yes. If you require a formal NDA before entrusting footage to SmashJ, we are happy to sign one. A number of our long-term clients have NDAs in place. Get in touch and we'll arrange this before any footage is transferred.

How a Privacy-First Editing Workflow Works

Here's the end-to-end flow — from the moment you send footage to the moment the final files land back with you — with privacy baked in at every step.

01
You upload footage via your chosen secure cloud service
Dropbox, Google Drive, Filemail — whichever you already use. The upload link is shared only between you and your assigned SmashJ editor via direct message. No third-party access, no shared links.
02
Your dedicated editor accesses the footage — and only your editor
The footage is downloaded to a secure, local editing workstation by the editor assigned to your project. It is not stored on shared servers or accessible by other team members without authorisation.
03
Preview delivered via Frame.io — private and password-protected
Your edit preview is shared through Frame.io under a private link accessible only to you. You review the edit, leave time-coded comments, and request changes — all within a secure, gated environment.
04
Final delivery via your secure cloud service
Final high-resolution files are returned to you via the same secure channel used for upload. Project files in your NLE of choice are included. Nothing is posted, shared, or distributed anywhere else.
05
Footage deletion on request
Once you confirm delivery is complete, raw footage is deleted from our systems on request. You stay in control of your clients' media from start to finish.
